Imago Skincare Review

Skincare is never an easy review to do, it takes time to see if your skin has benefitted from the products. I always tell clients that I shall happily do a review but it won’t be anytime soon. To get a true reflection of how the skincare has worked for you you must give it a chance and stick with it.

It’s not often you can instantly know your skin is going to love a skincare range but that is exactly what happened when I started to use Imago Skincare. My skin loved it and it really did not take long until I noticed my oiliness had reduced and my skin appeared brighter and smoother. I took to my group to tell the members how I loved this brand and I was not alone. Many women rave about it which is a testimonial to how good it actually is. It is all handmade and natural so no nasties in any of the products which is a bonus.

This is what Pauline, the creator of these products has to say

I started making skincare several years ago after attending training courses in Forres, Scotland with Kolbjorn Borseth, director of Aromantic skincare. Ever since the training, I have been working towards creating my range of products containing the best ingredients to nourish and care for your skin . The products were designed for specific skin types or needs and are formulated with ingredients to obtain the desired results. I have been known to spend 3 years trying to get a product right. I believe that I have a natural ability to choose ingredients that make the best possible product.

As a qualified aromatherapist, I use well selected essential oils to fragrance my skincare and the oils are specifically chosen to enhance their effectiveness. The products have a holistic aspect in that the essential oils have therapeutic effects, such as stress relief or enhanced sleep. I have been using my products as a therapist for several years and have received very positive responses from my clients, who often comment that they cannot believe the difference to their skin! I am now ready to move into the wholesale market so that other therapists, and their clients, can access the products.

Imago handmade and bespoke products have been in development since 2004. My products are derived from plant and marine sources!

Out of all the products I tried, there is a ”hero” and that has to be the marine active complex, a little goes a very long way. It feeds and plumps the skin and the effects are unreal, giving you a healthy glowing complexion. Apply it like you would a serum, one pump before your moisturiser. It was actually created as an anti ageing night treatment but fans of the product have been using it through the day too. Read on if you like the science…

The following are just four out of fifteen ingredients used in this product.  Eco Marine Algae Extract – Tests showed the capacity to stimulate cellular proliferation which significantly increased collagen synthesis by 19.3% using a 2% concentration in only 24 hours compared to an untreated control sample. Even when used at 0.5% there is a gradual increase collagen synthesis of 17% after 72 hours compared to untreated samples. EcoCert approved ethanol is used to make an extraction of Cylindrotheca fusiformis which is an oceanic marine algae. Because of the risk of pollution in the seas, the producer grows the microalgae in a purpose-built eco facility. This not only guarantees the purity of the algae but also means that the eco-balance of the oceans are not disturbed by uncontrolled harvesting. The algae give off gases that are harvested to heat the facility and it is powered by solar panels to give a low carbon footprint. Argan Oil – alpha-tocopherols, carotene, phytosterols and Omega 6 fatty acids. Pumpkin Seed Oil – high zinc content, an excellent lifting oil for dry, mature and damaged skin. high in vitamins A, beta-carotene, B2, B3, potassium, magnesium. It is also high in omega 9, 6 and 3. Said to contain high quantities of vitamin A, beta-carotene, and vitamins B2 and B3 Pomegranate Seed Oil – Contains Vitamins A, B D and E, also contains Punicic Acid which is known as Omega 5. This rare essential fatty acid is abundant in Pomegranate Seed Oil and this oil is the only known botanical source. Omega 5 has strong anti-inflammatory properties and is a good antioxidant. It tackles free radicals so delays skin ageing making the oil very regenerative and even helps to stimulate collagen production. Studies show that it provides protection from sun damage. Do not consider this to be an oil with high SPF because it is not but studies suggest that if sun damage has already occurred pomegranate seed oil can help to diminish that damage. Pomegranate Extract – help to regulate cell turnover and give the cell time to divide normally and form completely. Arctic Cranberry Extract – provides Essential Fatty Acids and Tocotrienols, offering a three-in-one kit for nourishing, moisturising and protecting the skin in the most natural way.

15 ml bottle – £12

Another great product was the Sooth and Purify green clay mask, it’s rejuvenating, healing, and pore tightening in action – great for shrinking large pores and removing impurities. It contains Herbal Extract of Wild Pansy and Chickweed, which has a synergistic effect and is cleansing, soothing and helpful for spot prone skin. Contains a special formula of 3 plant extracts from the South American Rain Forests which has been proven to show significant improvement to spot prone skin.  Comes with a separate pot of green clay to mix with the mask. Green Clay is detoxifying due to its unique blend of minerals. (copper, dolomite, manganese, silica, copper, zinc, phosphorous, magnesium and calcium).

50ml – £12 and includes a 20ml pot of Green Clay

The zesty lime exfoliator was fresh and left skin silky smooth removing dead skin cells. It has Bamboo exfoliant (no plastics to pollute our seas) and coconut butter.  Formulated with Lavender water and Castor oil and Jojoba oil to really get rid of all impurities, revealing beautiful, healthy and glowing skin all ready for the application of the marine complex and firm and nourish moisturiser.

60ml – £10

Large open pores are an issue for me so Pauline gave me the pore tightening solution to help reduce these pores and control that oil. I did feel this helped tighten everything up.

100ml £15

The balancing calendula cleanser was another firm favourite. This again helps target problem skin, oiliness and open pores. Your make up literally melts away using this cleanser. Its so creamy and rich and your skin feels gorgeous after use. I like to remove it with water but you can just remove with cotton wool too.

100ml £13

Finally, I used the firm and nourish Moisturiser

Hyaluronic acid has skin rejuvenation properties – it’s nicknamed the fountain of youth.  Produced by the body but reduces as we get older.  Cucumber extract – contains a host of ingredients to support the skin at a cellular level.  Pumpkin Seed Oil -Firms the skin, Lupine Peptides – contains adaptogens to restore suppleness and glow to the skin.  Vitamin A -skin regenerating.   (these are just a few of the skin nourishing and anti – ageing ingredients in this product.)

50ml £16

The Garage Spa Visit – County Durham

20160815_124240 20160815_090637 20160815_090651

On Monday I was invited along to the Garage Spa located near Barnard Castle, Co. Durham for a morning pamper session. As if I was going to refuse a morning of pure relaxation so of course I jumped at the chance. I have seen this spa mentioned many times on Tried and Tested with glowing reviews so I was very excited.

Firstly the area is stunning, lots of green surroundings and it was a red hot day. I noticed a large hotel ‘’The Morrit’’ beside the spa and did not realise that later this would be where I would dine for lunch.

‘’Adjoining the historic Morritt Country House Hotel, The Garage is a building with a fascinating past, transformed from an ancient stopping station into a first-class spa.

Here you’ll find everything you expect from a modern spa and more. Created with imagination and luxurious rural simplicity, sumptuous decor awash with warm natural stone and timber welcomes you like an old friend.

The Garage is no ordinary spa. Want your nails done? Step into the paint shop. Not firing on all cylinders? A full body MOT is just the ticket. Need to put on the brakes after exploring the stunning Teesdale countryside? Make The Garage your destination.

We’ve put a unique and luxurious spa on the map and look forward to welcoming you to our one-of-a-kind facilities and gorgeous treatments.’’

On arrival I was greeted by two lovely smiley therapists who gave me a medical form to fill in, asked if I would like to book any additional treatments as they had availability and gave me a menu to pick my two course lunch which was either a starter and a main or a main and a dessert. I was very impressed by the menu, true restaurant standard food and lots to choose from.

20160815_123749 20160815_123744 20160815_123734

After I had filled in my forms and picked my lunch I was shown to the changing area and given a fluffy robe, towel and flip flops to wear. The changing areas have individual units which include a toilet, basin and shower which was a nice touch and they were fitted to a very high standard, I loved the tiles and huge shower head. It did feel like my own private bathroom. Shampoo and Conditioner was supplied, however there was no body wash and my hand wash had ran out on the basin so I had to wash with shampoo.

20160815_091709

Once I was changed into my robe I was given a guided tour of the spa which consisted of

Steam Room

Salt Room

Jacuzzi with separate plunge pool and a separate warm pool

20160815_115330 20160815_115336

Outdoor Gardens, which if you get the weather like I did are just amazing to relax in. I loved the swing seats

Outdoor Sauna

Outdoor rustic Jacuzzi bath

Many different fancy showers around that all looked different so I assume do different things and cold bucket dunkers which would be great fun if with friends

20160815_115408 20160815_102027 - Copy

Many treatments rooms including a mud treatment room (you can buy the mud to massage all over the body, chill in the room letting it work its magic and then wash it off) the floatation bed room (ill come to this treatment later) then upstairs they have a couples treatment room which has its own private balcony with a copper bath on the balcony and more treatment rooms.

20160815_121713 20160815_114225 20160815_114016 20160815_114032 20160815_103916

I had a go of everything apart from the mud and didn’t have a treatment although I wish I had now.

I must admit I loved the outdoor space especially as the weather was so good and it was so peaceful.

I was treat to a 15 minute dry floatation treatment which is a like a water bed that you lie on and your submerged down into warm water. Imagine being on a lilo in a hot bath but actually being submerged without getting wet. The bed sort of hugs you tight and you just float on warm water. I did lie there thinking that it would be great it had settings that would create a slight wave so you felt you were at sea but it was very relaxing all the same.

20160815_103916

After the floatation treatment I was peckish. I’d had no breakfast so went to the reception area which has a beautiful lounge and ordered tea and a teacake. I sat and enjoyed this in my robe catching up on emails. Once finished I went back to make the most of the facilities.

20160815_123744 20160815_123734

At 12.30pm I decided to go and get changed ready for lunch at 1pm. I sat in the sun outside the spa and a lovely girl from the hotel came and got me and escorted me to the restaurant in the hotel. My meal was fantastic, could not fault it. As was the service, I had corn fed chicken and a strawberry shortcake. It was divine and from what I saw of the hotel it too was beautiful.

20160815_125731 20160815_130156 20160815_131305

After lunch it was time to head home. I really enjoyed my time at the Garage Spa, its quirky and different to the norm which I like. I will definitely return with friends in the future and make sure I have a treatment.

Clarins Red Room – House Of Fraser

After having the worlds worst cold I needed a little TLC. I knew exactly where to go for a pick me up that is not only great value but a great indulgent luxury treatment. Having been before I knew I would be well looked after.

Did you know Clarins in House of Fraser, Metro Centre offers a RED ROOM treatment? It is a 45 minute facial within a private treatment room. It is amazing and a facial that you wont experience anywhere else as Clarins staff are uniquely trained.

Clarins is the leading Number 1 in skincare so I would expect you to be shocked if I told you that you can get a 45 minute facial for £15 and that the £15 was then redeemable against any purchase made at the time of your appointment, making you facial FREE!!! Yes that’s right FREE!!! You cant even get a Facial with budget products in a salon for that price ladies.

I am a big fan of Clarins and this facial is a great way to try products and find favorites. Katherine is very informative and so passionate about the brand. Katherine first asked about my current skin care regime and asked what I was currently using, she then studied my skin to help her pick the products that would be right for me. Katherine ran through every product she used and the benefits. I particularly like the mask and the serum. The facial was so relaxing with an added bonus of some neck and arm massage. My skin feels amazing!

After the treatment you are offered ”a hint of colour” make over. Great if you have some shopping to do or are going out that evening, although it is just a mini make over but a nice chance to experience Clarins make up also. I opted out on this today as I was only planning on going home and wanted the full benefits of the facial products all night.

I will definitely be returning again and again for this facial, it is my port of call for a ”pick me up”. Katherine and the girls are very kind and very professional, a credit to Clarins!!

If you feel you would like to try this amazing £15 facial deal then I’d urge you to book asap. Last time I blogged this deal got booked up very very quickly.

thumb_18121_logo_retailer_1x 20160514_110013-1

”Wake me up before you go go”!!! This Clarins body balm is invigorating and uplifting. This is my favorite scent out of the Clarins range, so much so that all my Clarins body products are ordered in this same scent to layer the fragrance. I even have the perfume!!!. Certain essential oils can either help you sleep or help you wake up and this for me is a perfect morning balm to liven the senses and help you wake. Smooth on after Tonic Bath & Shower Concentrate and your skin is left soft, toned and smelling delicious.

”Change your tone! This refreshing body balm treatment—with a firming blend of Ginseng and Apple Seed Oil—soothes dryness, improves vitality and promotes the appearance of toned, supple-looking skin. Decléor Hydra Floral Hydrating Active Lotion

DSC02358  decleor_logo

Where do I start?. When I was introduced to this NEW moisturiser I was skeptical to say the least. A moisturiser that is the consistency of water…naaaa!!!! We all know the brand Decleor and we know they are a firm favorite in the skincare and spa industry but I wasn’t convinced with this new product. Now we all know I suffer from oily skin so I have to make sure skincare matches my skin type as anything too heavy just melts off and I end up looking like a wax work literally so sometimes I even avoid moisturiser when applying my foundation for a night out!!!. I never suffer from acne but I do suffer from open pores. The first time I picked this up to try  I nearly used it as a micellar water and had to remind myself that is is actually a moisturiser. I shook out a few drops on the palms of my hands, rubbed them together and patted into my face. Instantly on my hands you could feel this was not water. It was silky and light and smelt amazing as all Decleor products do. My skin drank it up with no residue left so my make up went on beautifully. My skin felt hydrated but without the moisturiser after feel but with a luminous glow. A big hit with Mrs T&T.

”Pollution and emotional stress can accentuate skin dehydration. Combining the freshness of a cosmetic water with the hydration power of a cream, this active lotion offers skin continuous hydration. Enriched with Moringa Olifeira extract providing protection against pollution particles, it reveals a beautiful skin texture. Skin feels plumped, with dehydration lines appearing smoothed. Skin glows and feels fresh.

Apply 2-3 drops into your hands (no cotton pad needed) and massage into a cleansed face and neck.Use as either a moisturiser after the Aromessence or as a moisture booster for your usual cream by using this beforehand.”

CLARINS EXFOLIATING BODY SCRUB

20160420_205306 thumb_18121_logo_retailer_1x  20160429_113037-1

I have been using this body exfoliator for about a month now and I have to say I love it! It makes my skin feel so silky smooth and is not harsh. It Refines and softens body skin by removing impurities and dead surface skin cells. An essential first step in any successful body care programme because it helps facilitate product absorption thereby enhancing product performance. Skin is more resistant, firmer and soft to the touch. This combined with my Kiehls creme de corps makes my legs summer ready

”The essential first step to achieving a firm, youthful-looking body: the Exfoliating Body scrub. This refreshing, moisturising and exfoliating treatment (with smoothing Natural Bamboo Powders and a hint of ginger) ‘rubs away’ rough, flaky surface cells and impurities, giving skin a sleek new start. Also, prepares skin for the treatment that follows”.

Murad Facial – House of Fraser Intu Metro Centre

murad 20160503_110209 20160503_110205

20160503_110215 20160503_113859

Today I was invited to try a Murad facial at its treatment room located in House Of Fraser, Intu Metro Centre, Gateshead.

Murad is an American skincare brand that was founded in 1989 by dermatologist Dr Howard Murad. The products are all based on using the best of science to get measurable results and there are prescriptive ranges designed for anti-ageing, blemish control, environmental protection, deeper wrinkles, discolouration and dark spots and a range specifically for men. I was particularly excited by the anti-aging blemish range because now at 35 I realise how important it is to look after your skin (better late than never I suppose).

I arrived at the Murad counter and was greeted by Sarah who asked me to fill in a medical form. I already knew I was having the AHA Rapid Exfoliator Anti-Ageing Facial which is a glycolic peel which gives incredible anti-ageing results, for healthier and younger-looking skin.

Sarah led me to the treatment room which presents itself with dark walls and dim lighting, giving me an instant relaxed feel. I removed my top, took down my bra straps and got comfy under the thick quilt on the bed.

After cleansing my skin, Sarah then prepped my skin with salicylic acid and then applied a glycolic peel along with a lip balm to protect the lips. She warned me that it may tingle and checked to make sure my skin felt OK while the active ingredients started work. Different people’s skin reacts in different ways; on a scale of 1 to 10 from normal to painful I was at a 1, there was virtually no tingle even. While the peel was working I was treated to a arm and hand massage.

After removing the peel, next up was the clarifying mask. It was very cool and calming. The mask was left for around 5 minutes. After Sarah removed the mask she applied a top layer of cream and my treatment was complete.

Murad is a prescription facial prescribed to treat a number of different skin problems. Please don’t book in with Murad if you are wanting a full on relaxing facial. Murad facials are done with the consultant wearing gloves to protect their hands as they do numerous facials per day and the acid would not be kind to their skin if they were to expose their hands to every treatment. Murad also don’t use the hot towels etc you would come to expect from a relaxing facial either. Do not let this put you off, I was actually relaxed and the thought of having prescription skincare working on my skin to help claw back the years filled me with glee.

Check out the other facial treatments Murad offer also!!!

My first visit to Murad, where I discovered the youth cam can be found here

REJUVENATED COLLAGEN SHOTS

DSC02214

*Thanks to Dr Land I was given these collagen shots to try!. I’m always skeptical about these types of ”drinks” because a.) they usually taste like utter ”crap” and b.) you never seem to notice a difference when using them unlike a cream or lotion. Well let me tell you from the off, they certainly don’t taste like crap which is refreshing and they actually taste pleasant, like blackcurrant. I was having one shot before bed every night along side my normal skincare regime. I noticed my skin, hair and nails were in much better condition. I get very dry skin on my body as I wear a lot of self tan but this product really hydrated my skin from the inside out. I also suffer pains in my knees due to arthritis but this seemed to have eased the pain and the only thing I done differently was hit the shots. My hair was thicker and more shiny and my nails were growing like grass which is was a pain as I was back for a gel manicure more regular than normal . Since I stopped using the shots over a month ago my dry skin on my body has returned. I recommend to try this product if you have any  skin conditions or feel your skin needs a boost. This product has great online reviews and all the details can be found below. If you would like to purchase this product please order through Novellus Asthetics a stockist. Rejuvenated collagen shots are £40 for a months supply

Rejuvenated – Collagen Shots – 30 Servings

Drink your way to a more youthful and glowing complexion with Rejuvenated’s Collagen Shots!
collagen shots logo
New anti-ageing collagen drink, formulated by an Olympic worthy development team, claims to smooth away wrinkles form the inside out!

One serving of Rejuvenated’s ‘Collagen Shots’ provides you with 10,000mgs of marine extract collagen – that’s equal to between 20 to 30 typical collagen tablets a day! The fruit flavored drink consists of 100% natural marine collagen and acai berry which helps reduce premature ageing for just £1 a day!

After the age of 25, the body begins to lose its ability to create new collagen, reducing by 1.5% a year and by the age of 45 collagen levels can have reduced by as much as 30%. The visible effects of this collagen reduction are the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines and dry skin, which we know too well are associated directly with ageing. With statistics like this, is it is no wonder that no anti-aging system can be effective without an adequate supply of collagen!

True skin health starts deep within and supplementing collagen levels with Collagen Shots will improve elasticity and help to give a more youthful appearance.

10,000 mgs marine collagen, hyaluronic acid, acai berry super antioxidant, combined with vitamin B3, B5, C with zinc and copper.

Boost levels of peptide rich amino acids and improve the skin’s tone and texture with Collagen Shots active ingredients. Reduce the appearance of tell tale signs of ageing.

collagen

Celebrity Makeup artist Daniel Sandler says:
“Taking care of your skin starts from within, and I’ve found Collagen Shots so effective in helping my skin appear smoother, younger and softer. I apply topical moisturisers every day, but use less than before as my skin is in such fantastic condition thanks to this miracle powder.”

Directions:
10 grams (10,000 mgs) of collagen per serving, take once per day (mild berry-flavour)

To get the best benefits from Collagen Shots take daily, ideally half an hour before going to sleep at night, this is when cells are renewing. Alternatively have on an empty stomach either first thing in the morning or before a meal.

Put one scoop in a glass and fill with 200 – 250ml of water (or preferred beverage), whisk with a fork, allow a minute for collagen to dissolve – whisk again and drink.
You could use a small blender or shaker for mixing.
Caution: Not suitable for people with fish or shell fish allergy

Ingredients:
Marine Collagen: Collagen is the most abundant protein in the body and supports skin health and its elasticity, taking it as a drink is the perfect way to supplement diminishing levels as we get older. If you are deficient in iron or vitamin C you would take a supplement so this is the perfect way to improve your skin but take a look at the added benefits with our Super Hero Collagen Shots. Collagen contains many amino acids (proteins) and each one has it’s own fantastic benefits, read here for more information on the top 15.

Açaí Berry: A super food with over 19 amino acids itself, including essential fatty acids for skin health and vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, C and E. Açaí Berry was our antioxidant of choice as it has shown to be key in improving arterial health, allowing for better blood supply to skin cells. It is high in essential fatty acids ad antioxidant properties.

Hyaluronic Acid: Hyaluronic acid (HA)has often been called the fountain of youth, it can hold up to 1000 times its own weight in water and provides a cushion filler between the cells. Scientific studies have shown that Hyaluronic acid improves skin hydration and helps to stimulate the production of collagen. It has several other key properties, playing a key part in joint health, supporting the vitreous fluid in the eyes and helping in the reduction gum disease

Vitamin B3 (Niacin): Vitamin B3 is essential for the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and lipids in the body and is required to produce energy. Niacin actually reduces ‘bad’ cholesterol and triglycerides and increases ‘good’ cholesterol. It can help in the battle against heart disease.

Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic acid): Vitamin B5 is water soluble and is essential to synthesise coenzyme-A and helps to release energy from the food we eat. It is also key for production of red blood cells and affects hormones from the adrenal gland

Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine): Vitamin B6 or Pyridoxine, is required for balancing hormone changes in women, assisting the immune system and the growth of new cells. It helps in metabolism and with good skin health which is one of the reasons we included it in Collagen Shots and is known to help with depression and helps to balance sodium and potassium levels.

Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid): Vitamin C is an essential vitamin that protects the body against oxidative stress. Vitamin C plays a significant role in the healing of wounds and helps to fight off infections. It is believed that vitamin C widens the arteries helping to prevent high blood pressure and heart disease. Good levels of the vitamin help to lower cholesterol levels and traditionally it was used to prevent scurvy. It is involved in the production of Collagen and in the effectiveness of Collagen Shots
